Tarus High Speed Mill
The Tarus High Speed Mills are "3 plus 2" axis milling machines which combine high feed-rates for finish milling, with the rigid construction and high torque spindle needed for semi finishing of steel injection molds and general milling of cast iron and aluminum tooling. The Tarus High Speed Mills are available in Gantry and Moving Table Configurations.

The unique CNC motorized “3 plus 2” style spindle head allows the cutter to be tipped up to 45 degrees and rotated completely around the center line of the spindle ram, while the position of the cutter is monitored by the CNC. When a standard 3 axis CNC milling program is used, the operator can interrupt a milling program at any time to move the cutter angle and immediately resume milling without creating a new program or presetting the machine.

The advantage of the Tarus concept is that since the head is clamped into place rather than being held by the A/B axis servomotors, the spindle has much greater rigidity than a typical 5 axis head. Also, since the spindle is a direct drive unit, we can offer 0-10,000 RPM while still using a large Cat 50 taper holder and maintaining a very low base speed for the High Torque needed for most applications. Other machines require that the milling head be switched from the “Roughing Head” which is typically gear driven and limited in RPM, to the “Finishing Head” which is a small, fragile, electro spindle which has very high rpm but very little torque or stiffness, and therefore cannot do much more than pick milling at 1 or 2 mm depths. Tarus believes that our solution is more reliable, more flexible, and more productive in the real world.

Tarus is now offering a new version of the Gantry High Speed Mill which incorporates Linear Motors from ETEL of Switzerland. This new machine will feature dramatic increases in acceleration and milling federates, and improved milling surface continuity.

Tarus RDUC Roughing Mills
The Tarus Roughing mills are specialized 3 axis machines for very heavy milling of injection molds. These machines feature very heavy build and a 75hp high torque dual winding AC Vector-Drive spindle motor.
